Gnostic computing transformation furnaces, calcite field divination & crystallography. Plimsoll Gallery Foyer and Courtyard – Martin Howse / Jonathon Kemp
Earth Code | Core Litany [EC|CL] explored the relationship between earth and technology, focussing on cycles of extraction (mining), refinement, usage, and obsolescence (e-waste is returned to the earth). Participants devised interventions into these circuitous industrial processes, constructing new technologies with which to violate these so-called improvements of nature through earth based actions and reactions. The EC|CL field trips to Tasmanian mining sites and Stoney Creek tin mine in Avoca, offered resources for the gallery based activities and performance through the collection of various samples (geological, biological, and psychological) and field documentation.
EC|CL reveals hidden earth processes, exposing subterranean signals derived from chemistry, high heat, and physical production-reactions including silicon production, thermite/microwave techniques, metal production using DIY furnaces, crystal optic and rock acid distillation.
